Drivers in Exeter are being warned that police are out and about locally this week on the lookout for vehicles with worn-out tyres.
They say this poses a danger to the driver and other road users - because the stopping distance is greatly increased if tyres are worn.
The maximum penalty for driving with defective tyres is three penalty points and a fine of 2 thousand 500 pounds per tyre.
