Police in Devon are urging people in abusive relationships to seek help.. and not to be afraid of coming forward.
As part of Domestic Violence Awareness Week, they want to remind people that they have specially-trained officers to deal sensitively with victims.
Mike West from the Police Public Protection unit says they also want to hear from anyone who thinks a friend, relative or family member is at risk from abuse in the home.
Police can intervene directly if necessary, or refer them on to other services for advice and support.
