A public inquiry opens today to determine whether a piece of land in Exeter should be designated as a village green.
The application for Eastern Fields in Pinhoe is being disputed by the city council, who own the land.
It would prevent the site being developed.
People living near Eastern Fields in Pinhoe say the land's been used for children's play and general recreation for decades, and should be protected for future generations.
