Police have shared a video of the incident.
The Devon and Cornwall Police Road Crime Unit (RCU) has share a video of an incident on the A38 near Exeter this morning.
They say after a short pursuit the driver "didn't want to hang about and chat". In the video, he can be seen running across the carriageway, before climbing through a fence and running into Haldon Forest.
He is disqualified from driving and is now sought by police.
Officers say police dog Harry was sent into the woods, but lost the track because of deer and other dogs, adding that the "Handler (was) cut to ribbons tracking through brambles"
