"Racist tirade" at Newton Abbot garage

Man arrested for intimidation

Police are appealing for witnesses after a shop attendant was threatened and subjected to racist abuse at a service station in Newton Abbot.

Between 8 and 9 p.m. on Saturday 19 September, a man banged on the nighttime counter window of the Esso garage on East Street before going in and verbally abusing the staff member using racist language.

A 32-year-old man from Newton Abbot has been arrested on suspicion of intimidation and released on police bail pending further enquiries until Monday 19 October.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or was in the area around the time of the incident and has any information, is asked to contact police on 101 or via email at 101@dc.media.uk quoting crime reference CR/080078/20.
