An old vinyl record donated to Exeter's Hospiscare charity brought in a thousand pounds for the charity... after it turned out to be a rare collector's item.
The manager of the shop in South Street recognised the rarity value of the British jazz album from the late 60s, and it was snapped up by a regular customer for 850 pounds - the rest of the money came from Gift Aid.
The original owner is said to be overjoyed that his donation brought in so much cash.
