The Exeter MP's claim that action is needed to reduce the waiting times to see a GP has been given extra credence by a report out today.
The study by Imperial College London looked at some of Britain's most efficient family doctors surgeries, and found that providing better access to GP services can reduce admissions to hospital emergency departments by up to ten per cent.
The same point was made by the Exeter MP in the Commons a few days ago - Ben Bradshaw called on the Health Minister to take action to reduce the time people have to wait, to see a GP.
Mr Bradshaw said Labour had required doctors to give appointments within 48 hours, encouraged surgeries to open during evenings and weekends, and set up NHS walk-in centres.
He said these improvements are being reversed by the Coalition.
