A report on alternative rail routes to the vulnerable coastal line at Dawlish has been released this afternoon.... and has concluded that they all offer poor value for money.
The report by Network Rail looks at further strengthening the existing line, and at the options for inland routes.
They include reconstructing an old route from Exeter to Plymouth via Okehampton, and building a modern track along the Teign Valley branch line from Exeter to Newton Abbot.
Five other routes could also provide a direct line between Exeter and Newton Abbot.
The Government will look at all the possibilities and is due to announce the way forward later this year.
