RNLI reports busy summer for Exmouth beach rescuers

Figures released by the RNLI show Exmouth's lifeboat station was one of the six busiest in the south west this summer.

The good weather brought hordes of people out on to the beach and into the water.

Across the south west there was a 24 per cent increase in incidents for RNLI lifeguards, and a total of more than 650 lifeboat rescues.

Exmouth lifeboat's coxwain Tim Mock says unfortunately, many of the call-outs could have been prevented if people had taken basic precautions against getting into difficulty - many had made elementary mistakes such as going out on jetskis without enough petrol on board.
And now that the lifeguards are no longer on duty in Exmouth, people are being urged to be extra safety-conscious in the water and around the coast.
