Devon has the second largest number of abandoned animals in the south west, according to the RSPCA.
So far this year the charity has had to deal with 685 cases in the county.
There's also been an increase in the number of unwanted pets being taped up in boxes and dumped in bins, skips or on waste ground, where they're less likely to be rescued.
Nationally Devon's the 15th worst county for animal abandonments.
