Tony Rowe, the chairman and chief executive of the Exeter Chiefs, will be granted the Freedom of the City later this month, in recognition of his services to rugby.
He became chairman of the board of directors of what was then the Exeter Rugby Club in 1998, and under his leadership they became the Chiefs, moved to Sandy Park and have gone from strength to strength.
The city council says his work has put the club - and Exeter - on the national and international map.
