Essential safety measures are to be carried out at Alma Bridge in Sidmouth.
It follows an inspection by Devon County Council.
A Council engineering survey has raised concerns over the deterioration of the mudstone rock since it was exposed by the floods in July.
Proposals are now being developed to install a temporary 1.2 metre wide bridge above the existing structure which will span the full width of the River Sid
