Building sites in Devon are being targeted in a crackdown by the Health and Safety Executive.
Inspectors will be carrying out un-announced spot checks to look at working practices, risk management and the use of protective equipment.
Construction is a notoriously dangerous industry.. and during the year 2011 to 2012 it claimed the life of a workman in Exeter - he fell to his death at a building site in the city centre.
In the same year 24 construction workers were seriously injured in Exeter, and mid and east Devon.
Over the next few weeks, HSE inspectors will be visiting smaller sites across the region to check working practices and safety facilities, particularly in the more activities such as working high above the ground. They say they will take strong action if they find evidence that any workers are being exposed to avoidable risks.
