Task force set up to explore railway options

Ways of safeguarding Devon's main railway link, following the severe storm damage at Dawlish, are being examined by a new taskforce.

It's led by Network Rail and also involves the Department for Transport, the Environment Agency, train operators and local councils.

They'll be looking at three options: retaining the coastal route, building a second line and re-routing the main line.

They'll study forecast sea level rises, passenger demand, environmental, social and economic factors - and will be informed by a separate study on five potential inland routes.
