Torbay council's proposing a rise of 30p for the first 470 yards of a Hackney Carriage journey.
It would see the standard tariff between 7am and 11pm go up to £3.30.
The cost during the rest of the night, Sundays, bank holidays, Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve would go up to £3.60.
The plans will go out for consultation and if agreed, would come into force on October 1st.
