He was given first aid before being transferred to hospital
A 13-year-old boy has died after being pulled from the shipping canal in Exeter.
Emergency services were called to Clapperbrook Lane East, close to Bronhams Farm Car Park, at around 4.35pm on Monday 5 May, following reports a child had failed to surface after jumping into the water.
Police, fire and ambulance teams attended the scene, where the boy was pulled out of the water before receiving first aid.
He was taken to hospital in a serious condition where he later died. His next of kin have been informed.
Acting Superintendent Chris Conway said: “This is an awful and tragic incident, and we offer our condolences to the family who are being supported by specialist officers.
“We would ask that the privacy of the family is respected as they come to terms with their devastating loss.”
The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for HM Corone
