40 volunteers help tidy city streets
A new initiative, supported by the city's Business Improvement District (BID), has helped clean up Exeter's street.
The Neighbourhood Action Days program, which launched earlier this year, involved members of the public and local businesses have come together to clean up key areas like Gandy Street, the Castle Quarter walkway, Sidwell Street, South Street, and Coombe Street.
Volunteers dedicated over 150 hours of their time to litter picking, weeding, planting, and sweeping.
Their efforts have resulted in the removal of 60 wheelbarrows of weeds and the revitalisation of three locations throughout the city.
A team from Primark joined the Neighbourhood Action Day on South Street, Store Manager Aaron Bliss said:
“My team had a fantastic experience—the day was so fulfilling that they said they’d do it even if it weren’t a workday. That sense of accomplishment makes it all the more worthwhile, and I’m excited to be part of the next one.”
Laura Bowden, a local resident and volunteer, shared her positive experience:
"I met so many interesting people and really enjoyed the physical nature of the day. It felt great to contribute to the community while working in nature, which I’ve missed since moving into a flat."
