Residents will vote on December 12th.

Residents in the town will go to the polls to elect an Exeter City Council member, as well as their MP.

The by-election has been triggered after the resignation of Conservative Catherine Pierce, who was first elected to the council in 2018. No reason for her resignation has been given.

Four candidates have been confirmed as taking part in the election which will happen on Thursday, December 12.

They are:

Christine Campion (Liberal Democrats)

Ivan Jordan (Labour)

Frankie Rufolo (The For Britain Movement)

Keith Sparkes (Conservatives)

The composition of the council currently stands as Labour (29), Conservative (5), Liberal Democrat (2), Green Party (1), Independent (1), and Vacant (1).

Topsham has only returned Conservative councillors in the 21st century, and in May’s election, Cllr Rob Newby held onto his seat in the ward with 47 per cent of the vote.
