Pepsi will attend civic events with councillor Mandy Darling.
The labrador-retriever cross is Cllr Darling’s fourth guide dog.
Cllr Darling said: “I’m delighted to be given the chance to get out into the community and raise the profile of the council.”
The mayor elect is the current deputy, Terry Manning, Independent councillor for St Peters with St Marys at Brixham.
He will be taking over from civic mayor Maggie Douglas-Dunbar, a retired midwife and Liberal Democrat councillor for Clifton with Maidenway in Paignton.
