Devon pipped to the post
This weekend saw the return of the annual Town Crier competition in Newton Abbot.
On Saturday 6 September, fifteen sets of lungs were tested to the limit in front of St Leonard's Tower.
After two gruelling rounds, the top spot went to first-timer Jeremy Holland from Cinderford, Gloucestershire.
Mr. Holland also took the titles for the loudest cry and best second cry.
Second place and best dressed went to Phil Northcott from Penzance, and third went to Devon champion Rosanna Channer-Chad from Hatherleigh.
They talked about their towns in the first round, and then, after a break, gave entertaining shouts about chocolate.
Participants are judged on things like: how loud and clear their voice is, how well they pronounce words, and how engaging their performance is. They're also judged on the content of their cries.
