Christmas lights, candles and decorations can be a real safety hazard, according to Devon and Somerset Trading Standards.
They're advising people to make sure their lights are the newest kind with a transformer to reduce the mains voltage - and to make sure the transformer isn't covered up or it could overheat.
Candles can easily start fires if placed too close to other decorations - Trading Standards say there have been cases of deaths caused by small tea lights setting fire to other materials.
