Truro charity urges support for displaced families

£20 could go a long way

Truro-based charity ShelterBox has launched an urgent appeal to help thousands of families displaced by conflicts and natural disasters.

They provide immediate support in the aftermath of a crisis, most recently responding to Hurricane Melissa, which battered parts of the Caribbean.

The organisation is urging supporters to consider donating to provide emergency shelter and essential aid to people in crisis, rather than traditional gifts.

For as little as £20, you could provide a thermal blanket for a family. £50 can provide clean and safe water with a filter,

A larger donations contribute to a full ShelterBox, which provides a massive aid package including a tent, a shelter repair kit, and essential items like solar lights, water filters, and a kitchen set, helping families rebuild their lives.

ShelterBox relies solely on public donations to fund its responses worldwide.

Head of Supporter Engagement, Ellen Mullins, says, 'It's only a matter of time before the next disaster strikes, and when it does, more families will need urgent and life-saving aid. 'That's why this festive season, we're asking people to give as much as they can to support us.

This Christmas, the cost of a typical present could go towards a life-saving shelter for a family desperately in need.'
