A research team, including members of the university's Sport and Health Sciences department, looked at the performance of boys and girls aged 6 to 11.
The youngsters, from across Europe, were tested on their running speed, flexibility, strength and balance.
It was the first research project to provide gender and age-specific information on that age group.
