Exeter University has been granted permission to improve its sports facilities.
It will be covering its outdoor tennis and netball courts, relocating a multi-use games area.
The University is also building a changing pavilion with a balcony to seat 84 spectators overlooking its all-weather pitches.
The scheme has caused some concerns about light pollution, but nearby residents have been re-assured that the building will only give off an "unobtrusive glow".
