Local Trading Standards are investigating a spate of bogus phone calls from someone claiming to be from East Devon council or the county authority.
The caller says he's phoning about an accident in the home and then asks for personal details.
When challenged about why he wants that information he hangs up.
The first reports came in at the end of last week and there were at least three more cases yesterday.
