South West Water looks set to get planning permission for a waste water plant in Clyst Honiton this afternoon - despite some local objections.
The water company plans to put an underground shaft and a building 10 metres long and more than four metres high on land next to the River Clyst.
The company says it's part of the works for a new pumping station, needed to serve new local developments including the town of Cranbrook, Skypark, and a new terminal at Exeter airport.
Some concerns have been expressed about the 'utilitarian' appearance of the building, on a piece of land popular with walkers, and the risk of flooding.
However county councillors are being advised to approve it on the grounds that it's the only site that meets all the operational requirements.
