Waves which washed away the Dawlish railway line worst for seventy years

New research shows the stormy winter of 2013 - 14, when the railway line at Dawlish was washed away, was the most energetic for almost seventy years.

A study in the Geophysical Research letters journal found the waves along Europe's atlantic coast were the most severe since at least 1948. The researchers say they had the ability to dramatically change Devon's coastline.
