Her death is not being treated as suspicious.
Police were called to Church Street at 6pm last night (Tuesday 3rd December) after reports of concern for the welfare of a woman.
But emergency services pronounced the woman, believed to be in her 30s, dead at the scene.
In a statement, Devon and Cornwall Police said: "The death is not believed to be suspicious at this time and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
Her next of kin have been told.
