Last gasp Wareham header secures point
Wycombe were quick out of the blocks and came close to going ahead in the first minute after a mishap at the back for Exeter which Luke Harris narrowly missed.
A few minutes later, City latched onto a mistake at the back from Dan Casey which was floated into the head of Ethan Brierley in the box which looped just over the crossbar, a golden opportunity missed.
It was the visitors who broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute after a misjudgement from Joe Whitworth in the City goal, which was gladly taken advantage of by Fred Onyedinma, a moment to forget for the Grecians number one.
As the half progressed, it looked to be a frustrating start to life for City’s interim boss Dan Green with his side having had little luck going forward despite their overall dominance.
Just before the break City came close to drawing level from Rydel’s swinging corner which nearly caught Will Norris off-guard in the visitor's goal.
Half Time: Exeter City 0-1 Wycombe Wanderers
City came out much the brighter side in the second half, coming close in the 51st minute with Rydel firing just wide at the near post.
Exeter continued to push forward as Akeel Higgins came on for Rydel adding an extra piece of attacking spark for the hosts.
There was little between the sides with the game edging towards the end, with a lack of real quality on show from both teams.
In the 79th minute Niskanen cut in from the right and had an ambitious shot across goal which flew just over the target.
It was in the 91st minute where Exeter finally got themselves on level terms as Wareham brilliantly leapt onto Higgins cross which flew into the bottom right corner, salvaging a deserved point for the Grecians.
In the final moments of the game City had a chance to find an unlikely winner which Timur Tutierov rather tamely put wide of the near post.
Overall, a point was a fair result for both sides and a solid start at the helm for Dan Green under the lights.
