Countryside campaigners are calling on providers of 4G wireless internet services not to leave Devon's rural areas till last when introducing the new generation mobile phone networks.
Capacity for the new services was auctioned by communications regulator Ofcom last week.
The rules say 99% of the UK must be covered, but the deadline is in 2017... and the Countryside Alliance fears that providers will prioritise cities.
The campaign group says the new technology has major benefits for the rural economy including farmers and the tourist trade.
