Rising dangers on duty
Ambulance staff in Devon are facing increasing dangers on the job.
In the last three years, nearly 400 staff members have been injured while on duty.
South Western Ambulance Service has paid out just over £116,000 in compensation, with the highest payout exceeding £50,000. 35 claims were lodged against the service, and 17 of them were upheld or settled.
Manual handling and assaults are the most common causes of injury, with 61 incidents involving violence and aggression.
This is a nationwide problem, with 55 ambulance workers being abused or attacked every day.
The number of incidents nationally is the highest ever recorded.
