It's emerged that the armed police siege in Exeter on Saturday was part of an operation to recover a man who'd been kidnapped.

The Metropolitan Police say this was an intelligence-led operation by their Kidnap and Specialist Investigations Unit, assisted by Devon and Cornwall police.
Part of Monks Road was sealed off for about an hour and several armed police were involved.
They recovered a man in his 30s who'd been held against his will at an address in Monks Road - he was unharmed.
A 37 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of blackmail and firearms offences - he's been released on bail pending further investigations.
