Elderly lady attacked
A Plymouth man has been charged with attempted murder after a woman was attacked in the city centre.
Police were called to reports of an assault on at 9:20am on Friday (16 January) near Hastings Terrace and Penrose Street. A woman in her 70s was taken to hospital and later discharged.
Eugene Pope, who’s 23 and from Harwell Street, will appear before magistrates today.
He also faces separate charges of assault by beating and possession of a knife and cannabis.
A younger woman, in her 30s, suffered minor injuries after a similar incident in the same area earlier that morning.
Armed police attended and a cordon was put in place and lifted after a short time.
