Police in mid-Devon are looking for a burglar who pretends to be a policeman when challenged.
Yesterday evening two residents of Culm Haven in Uffculme caught a man trying to get into their homes through the back door - in both cases he claimed to be a police officer leaving the property.
However he wasn't very convincing - being described as having a dishevelled appearance and wearing casual clothes and a baseball cap.
It's thought the suspect tried to get into several houses but failed in most cases - although one person had a wallet containing fifty pounds stolen.
Police say impersonating an officer is an offence - and are reminding the public that a genuine member of the force will have ID and a shoulder number.
