Talk to us’ plea on rural crime in South Hams
Communities in the South Hams are being urged to talk about crime.
The district council’s head of environmental health says residents can take the lead in the fight against anti-social behaviour, drug use and other crimes.
The South Devon and Dartmoor Community Safety Partnership presented its latest report to a meeting of South Hams Council, and Ian Luscombe told members: “It’s about making sure we’ve got good intelligence to act on, and a lot of that can be driven by people like yourselves, representing your communities.”
The partnership is made up of South Hams, Teignbridge and West Devon councils along with police and health partners.
Cllr Jacqi Hodgson (Green, Dartington and Staverton) said: “I’m worried about the level of drugs in many of our towns, and stories I hear about knife crime.
“It feels to me that the people behind the problems are hard to reach.”
Senior environment officer Claire Birch said the partnership was doing a lot of work with parents to identify when children were being drawn into trouble.
But, she added: “If I could say one thing it would be ‘Please tell us’.”
