The redevelopment of Exmouth sea front has moved a step closer after a key meeting of the planning committee today.
A majority of councillors voted to approve the general scale of the development and other matters, which needed to be agreed before more detailed plans could be considered.
Today's decision permits the council to realign part of Queen's Drive and build a new car park, and also paves the way for developers to put forward their applications for a watersports centre, hotel, and leisure facilities on the site.
