A local campaign has seen over 15,000 responses to a survey commissioned to gauge demand for faster broadband in Devon and Somerset.
The Connecting Devon project say their campaign to bring super-fast broadband to the South West is gaining momentum, with support from Councillors, businesses and individuals.
The media regulator, Ofcom, has revealed that almost 18% of premises across the area achieve a speed of under 2 megabytes per second, and in Devon, only 17% of the County receive the super-fast speeds that are commonplace in the South East.
The campaign say they would like to see the availability of these top speeds to rise to 85% locally by 2014.
Devon County Councillor, Will Mumford, explained that with more respondents, the improvement is more commercially viable: "If we can evidence really strong demand for super-fast broadband across Devon and Somerset, then we will be a much more attractive proposition for private sector investment in the network".
