Education leaders in the county have written to the Secretary of State urging him to take action.
The Chairman of the Devon association of primary headteachers, and the county council's Cabinet member for children, have written a joint letter to Michael Gove.
They're pointing out that the 'postcode lottery' for allocating education spending puts Devon sixth from the bottom of all the local authorities, in terms of funding - that means a primary school with 200 pupils receives 96 thousand pounds less than average.
