Devon military homes become pet friendly

More freedoms for personnel

More than 500 service homes in Plymouth are now pet-friendly. 

Up until this week, service men and women faced lengthy delays to own a pet because of existing red tape. 

Now, they can have up to two dogs, cats, or smaller pets without needing any special permission after changes made by the government.

It's also now easier for them to decorate their home and run businesses from there, making their houses feel more like home. 

Fred Thomas, the MP for Plymouth Moor View, and himself a former Royal Marine, welcomed the change.

He said, 'We have hundreds of military homes across Plymouth and for years our armed forces families have been unable to do basic things to make their homes feel even more like a home.

This was a wrong thing that the current government have put right by upholding the Armed Forces Covenant and ensuring nobody is disadvantaged because they serve in our Armed Forces. 

Our Armed Forces make the most incredible sacrifices to keep us safe, they shouldn't have to put up with sub-standard housing, the most basic customer rights, and under Labour, they won't.' 

The government has also promised to invest an extra £1.5 billion into Armed Forces housing nationally.
