East Devon residents are being warned about a bogus housing officer making enquiries about accommodation for Syrian refugees.
A Sidmouth resident was visited by a well-dressed, well-spoken man claiming to represent the district council's housing department.
He asked a lot of questions about the property and asked to look around, but the resident refused to let him in.
The council say the caller was nothing to do with them and they've contacted the police.
