Businesses in East Devon's towns and villages are being reassured over the District Council's plans to bring in more markets and street traders.
It is in response to possible concerns that this could take trade away from the High Streets or undercut their prices.
The council's Deputy Chief Executive Richard Cohen says several economic studies have shown that the opposite is the case.
