Figures released this morning show Exeter City Council owns more restaurants and cafes than almost any other local authority in the UK.
It has 32 - only Brighton and Hove council has a higher number, at 59.
The data's been released by the Taxpayers' Alliance, which made Freedom of Information requests to all local authorities.
They say in view of the cuts to local services, the amount of property owned by the council will be a surprise to many people.
In a statement Exeter City Council say they have a commercial property portfolio that is managed for the purposes of generating rental income to keep Council Tax rates low.
