Exeter illuminates with colour for Exeter Pride

WATCH: Thousands flock the high street to attend the city's 'biggest ever' event

Thousands of people flocked Exeter highstreet on Saturday (11th May) showing their support towards Exeter Pride, a celebration of diversity, in what was a spectacular spectacle of colour and smiles for the annual event. 

The parade, which included ambulances, fire engines, dancers and a 50 metre rainbow flag, worked its way down the highstreet before ending in Northernhay Gardens. 

The parade was followed by an afternoon of entertainment from live bands - including a set from local favourites Sound of the Sirens - and a marketplace with more than 80 stalls. 

Speaking about this year's successful event The Lord Mayor of Exeter Rob Hannaford, the first-ever gay Lord Mayor in Exeter, said: "We have had Lord Major's in Exeter since twelve-hundred, but I'm the first openly gay Lord Mayor - so this event means a lot to me. It's brilliant, and the turnout was amazing - a great success.

"This year it's important that we highlight the trans community. It's really important that we send out our messages of love and support to them - they're an integral part of our community."
