A homing pigeon which carried top secret military messages across the Channel to Exeter during the Second World War is to be honoured today, with the unveiling of a blue plaque at the home of its owner.
Mary the pigeon was owned by Charlie Brewer who lived in West Street, near Bonhay Road.
She was part of the National Pigeon Service during the 1940s - and both she and Charlie were given medals for their work.
