Residents of Feniton have launched a fighting fund to appeal against proposed housing developments around the village.
Three developers have submitted planning applications which would lead to 235 new homes being built on nearby fields.
The Parish Council will be objecting to the plans at a public inquiry in January, and at a packed emergency meeting this week, asked for cash from local people to help pay their legal costs.
Two thousand pounds was immediately pledged at the meeting, in a response the Feniton councillor Susie Bond described as 'extraordinary'.
