Exeter city football club's chairman is calling it a result, after plans to improve St James' Park were given the go ahead last night.
The planning application, which was yesterday granted approval by councillors, includes a new grandstand, toilets and changing rooms.
The work is set to be funded by a new student flat development near the grounds, which was also part of the application.
The accommodation, which was opposed by some local residents, will house more than 300 students.
