The junior doctors' strike has led to nearly 800 appointments, procedures and operations being postponed at Exeter's RD&E. And local residents are being asked to help reduce pressure on staff over the next two days.
The absence of junior doctors - even in A&E - means other staff and consultants are stepping in to cover for them, so that anyone needing urgent medical attention is looked after.
However the hospital says the strike is putting it under further pressure at a time when demand is already high.
The public can help by only attending A&E in really urgent cases - and go to a walk-in centre, minor injuries unit or pharmacy for less serious illnesses and injuries.
Pregnant women who're approaching their due date should contact their local maternity unit to find out what the arrangements are during the strike.
