A burglar who was discovered in a Sidmouth family's home brandishing a knife is starting a three-year jail sentence.
35 year old Sean Day of Lock Close in Sidmouth broke into an isolated cottage at Pinn.
The family's seven year old son found him standing over his father - who was asleep on the sofa.
The burglar ran off and tried to drive off in a stolen car but it broke down.
In court he admitted burglary, taking the car and resisting arrest.
