Many of Exeter's city centre shops will stay open until 7pm on Thursdays from today.
The move is part of the wider plan to extend the daytime economy into the evening, with shoppers expected to stay for a meal or drinks afterwards.
The city council's supporting it by lifting the charges in its car parks after 5pm every Thursday.
