He reached speeds of almost 140mph on the North Devon Link Road
A learner driver who reached speeds of almost 140 mph in a police chase in Devon has been jailed.
Officers tried to stop Leon Lloyd from West Lancashire in July for not having insurance.
Exeter Crown Court heard how the 23-year-old had covered nine miles between South Molton and Tiverton in just four and a half minutes - an average speed of 120mph in a 60mph limit.
The chase only ended on the North Devon Link Road when his Subaru Impreza blew up.
The 23-year-old was jailed for eight months at Exeter Crown Court, with the judge Timothy Rose describing his driving as "shockingly dangerous"
He told him there was “no way you could have a vehicle travelling at that speed under control” and that “one slight hiccup would have caused a collision with possible multiple fatalities”.
